Numerical simulation of water and nitrogen transport in three turfgrass systems

The relative contributions to N leaching in turfgrass systems from over irrigation, fertilization, form, and soil texture, require characterization. In this study, water transport parameters were calibrated using an inverse simulation with a Kentucky bluegrass landscape. Subsequently those applied simulate use by tall fescue buffalograss turfgrasses numerical modeling. Using the hydraulic obtained simulation, transformation was modeled Hydrus-1D. A variable boundary condition used describe irrigation fertilization schedules, including composition of fertilizer estimated content returned turf clippings. Numerical simulations multiple events at two rates (1X, 2X) actual (2010) three levels 1.5X, optimized amounts (2010), quick-release 1X for each species compare root zone. To demonstrate influence texture on leaching, different textures also simulated. Simulation results showed that main contributing factor NO3-N affected rate significantly.
